Mysore/Mysuru: A woman and a relative of an undertrial have been sent to jail after they were caught smuggling SIM cards among clothes to be given to an undertrial.
Those arrested are Nasreen Taj, mother of Mohammed Rihan, the undertrial and Farheen Taj, a relative of Nasreen.
Mohammed Rihan is an accused in a murder case and an undertrial lodged at the Mysuru Central Prison.
On May 27 at about 7.40 pm, Nasreen and Farheen, who were carrying a bag containing clothes, came to Mysuru Central Prison to meet Rihan and give him the bag.
When woman Police staff Jyothi and Roopa checked the bag using a scanner, they found something resembling a SIM car hidden among the clothes. They then asked Head Constable Prathap to check the bag physically.
When Prathap checked the clothes inside the bag, he found two Airtel SIM cards hidden in the pocket of a light blue coloured jeans pant.
As SIM card is one of the banned items in the prison as per the Prison Amendment Act, a complaint in this regard was lodged at Mandi Police Station against undertrial Mohammed Rihan, his mother Nasreen Taj and relative Farheen Taj.
Mandi Police, who received the complaint, registered a FIR and Nasreen and Farheen have been sent to jail.
