Bid to stab jeweller, wife: One held, search on for another

Mysore/Mysuru: Vijayanagar Police, investigating into the case of bid to stab a jeweller and his wife by two strangers on the pretext of giving an invite for a house warming ceremony, at KHB Layout, Hootagalli in the city recently, have arrested a man in the case while the search is on for another accused, identified as the wife of the arrested person.

The arrested person is identified as Veeresh, 31, a native of Kalaghatagi in Dharwad district but settled in Hootagalli here.

 A tattoo artist, he also works as a security guard, while his wife Priyanka, hailing from K.R. Pet in Mandya district, runs a beauty parlour.

 On Aug. 16 at around 12.30 pm, the accused had been to the house of 57-year-old jeweller Babulal to invite their son Harish to a house warming ceremony. When Babulal replied in negative, they asked for water handing over the water bottle. When Babulal’s wife Kamalabai, aged 52, went inside to bring water, they barged into the house and attacked Babulal by stabbing him in his hand. When Kamalabai came to the rescue of her husband, the accused stabbed her also, besides issuing a threat. When Kamalabai raised an alarm, the accused had bolted away from the spot.

Vijayanagar Police Inspector Ravishankar, who had registered a case of murder attempt, had launched a search for the suspects and succeeded in nabbing one among the accused while another accused continues to be absconding. According to Police sources, the accused with the ulterior motive of robbing Babulal couple had bought a knife online and zeroed in on the house of the jeweller.
