Mysore/Mysuru: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Dr.  B.S. Manjunatha Swamy, who presided over the district-level co-ordination committee meeting in city on Tuesday has stated that birth and death certificates which were earlier issued in writing will now be carried out online.

“In the past, the birth and death certificates were issued in writing and registration was done by concerned authorities, but now, the whole process is being carried out online. Registered birth and death certificates are given free of cost. One can pay the stipulated amount and get additional copies,” he said.

“As per the Sustainable Development Goal 16 and Indicator 16.9.1, under Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 and 1999, registration officers should register 100 percent of all births and deaths occurring in areas under their respective jurisdictions. At the taluk-level, co-ordination committee meeting, presided over by Tahsildars, must be convened to discuss and resolve the issues in this regard,” he said.

e-JanMa is a web-based application implemented by the Government of Karnataka to cater the need of online registration and recording births, deaths and still-death events occurred in the State. It was launched with an objective of recording all the data of births and deaths registration in a digital form and providing the same information to the public.

District Statistical Officer N. Krishnamurthy, Department of Women and Child Development Deputy Director K. Padma, Zilla Panchayat officials, Tahsildars and other officials from the Chief Registrar of Births and Deaths Office were present at the meeting.
