Mysuru: On the occasion of the birth centenary of noted Kannada novelist Ta.Ra. Subba Rao (TaRaSu), a programme has been organised at the Institution of Engineers-India (IEI) on JLB Road in city tomorrow (Nov. 29).
Announcing this at a press meet held at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, TaRaSu Birth Centenary Celebration Committee President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna said, “Former MLA and Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj will flag off the event at 10.30 am. Former MLA Vasu will preside. D. Devaraj Urs Development Corporation Chairman R. Raghu Kautilya will speak about TaRaSu. MLAs S.A. Ramdas and L. Nagendra will be present.”
“On this occasion, the Committee has organised a seminar which features two sessions. First session will begin at 12.30 pm in which Kannada Kriya Samiti General Secretary S.R. Sudarshan will speak on the topic ‘TaRaSu as a freedom fighter and Kannada activist.’ Social activist P. Mallesh will chair the session. Chutuku Sahitya Parishat State Chief Convenor Dr. M.G.R. Urs and University of Mysore’s Mass Communication & Journalism Department Professor Niranjan Vanalli will be the chief guest,” he said.
In the second session starting at 3 pm, Senior Kannada Film Director S.K. Bhagawan, Journalist Ravindra Bhat and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan – Madhyama Bharati Director N.S. Sridhara Murthy will speak on the topic ‘TaRaSu as a journalist and novelist; his contribution to film industry.” Senior writer Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy will chair.
Later, TaRaSu Birth Centenary Celebration Committee will felicitate daughter of TaRaSu Purnima and her husband Sundar. Documentary about the noted writer produced by the Department of Information and Public Relations will also be screened at the venue.
At 5 pm, Kannada Pusthaka Pradhikara Chairman Nandish Hanche will deliver valedictory address. Senior writer Dr. CPK will preside. MLA G.T. Devegowda and Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Chairman H.V. Rajeev will be the chief guests.
TaRaSu Birth Centenary Celebration Committee Hon. President D.T. Prakash, Working President Dr. K. Raghuram Vajpayee, Hon. Secretary G.S. Bhoganandish, Chief Convenor S. Prakash Babu and Muguru Nanjundaswamy were present during the press meet.
