MCC to tie up with India Post in a doorstep, citizen-friendly initiative

Mysuru: In a bid to simplify civic services and take them to the doorstep of citizens, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to introduce a new scheme under which birth and death certificates will be delivered directly to applicants’ homes in collaboration with the Postal Department.

Under the initiative, residents of all 65 wards coming under MCC’s nine Zonal Offices who apply for birth or death certificates will receive the documents at their doorstep within the stipulated time frame.

The move is aimed at eliminating the need for citizens to make repeated visits to the corporation offices to obtain the certificates.

At present, applicants have to submit their requests online. While certificates for new cases are issued within a week, those relating to older cases take 15 to 30 days. Applicants often have to visit MCC offices more than once to follow up on their applications and collect the documents. The proposed doorstep delivery system is expected to provide considerable relief to the public.

Parleys with Postal Dept.

MCC is working with India Post to ensure smooth delivery of the certificates. Once the documents are prepared, they will be dispatched to the addresses provided by applicants through the postal network. Discussions are underway to finalise an agreement with Postal Department covering logistics, delivery procedures and postal charges.

MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha said the corporation receives several applications for birth and death certificates every day. To spare applicants the inconvenience of making repeated visits to its offices, the MCC plans to have the certificates delivered directly to their homes.

“This scheme will greatly benefit citizens, especially senior citizens, those living in distant areas and individuals with time constraints,” she said.

The proposed agreement between the MCC and India Post is expected to reduce the need for applicants to stand in long queues at corporation offices. The initiative will also complement the MCC’s existing online civic services and make the process more convenient and citizen-friendly.

“We are coordinating on the delivery procedures and postal fees. Once the modalities are finalised, the scheme will be rolled out to provide faster and more convenient public service,” she added.
