Lock Gram Panchayat officials in office

Mysore/Mysuru: Alleging that illegal Underground Drainage (UGD) works were taken up at Survey No. 280 in Bogadi village by digging a trench on the Ningarajaiah Lake bund and demanding stern action against those involved in it, the villagers staged a protest besides locking up the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO), Gram Panchayat Secretary and others inside the Gram Panchayat Office from 12 noon to 4 pm on Tuesday.

The villagers alleged that a trench was dug up on the lake bund to lay UGD pipes to a private layout that is coming up next to the burial grounds of Schedule Caste (SC) community near the lake besides stating that due to digging of the trench, the compound wall of the burial grounds was in the verge of collapsing.

They alleged that the Mysuru Taluk Panchayat and Bogadi Gram Panchayat members, along with the PDO, had given permission for the illegal works and added that though the Tahsildar visited the spot and conducted an inspection, no action was taken against the people who were involved in the illegal works.

The villagers warned of taking out a padayatra from the village to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, if action was not taken in the coming three days.

Meanwhile, officials from the Taluk Office, who rushed to the spot, informed the villagers that notices have been served to those involved in the illegal works and action would be taken soon.

Village leaders Puttegowda, Arunkumar Gowda, M. Nagaraj, Siddegowda, Nandish Bellaiah, Ravi, Ravikumar, Kenchegowda, Shankaregowda, H. Swamy, Ravichandru and others took part in the protest.
