Book cases on unauthorised homestays, says Tourism Secretary

Madikeri: With complaints pouring in on illegal homestays, Tourism Department Secretary Anil Kumar has asked the officials of the concerned Department to register cases against people running such illegal homestays.

He was speaking at a progress review meeting of Tourism Department held yesterday at the Deputy Commissioner’s  office here.

Anil Kumar asked the Department officials to organise a workshop providing necessary information on the modalities for opening a homestay as per the Government guidelines. He added that information was being gathered from Homestay Association and other organisations in that context.

Kodagu SP P. Rajendra Prasad suggested Local Bodies to scrutinise the consent letters received from the Tourism Department before issuing No Objection Certificate (NOC) for opening homestays.

Homestay Association member B.G. Ananthashayana sought development works at Raja Seat and the parking lot. Another members Karumbaiah sought complete information on authorised and unauthorised homestays.

Association President Chengappa, ZP CEO Prashant Kumar, Municipal Commissioner  B. Subha,Tourism Department Officer C. Jagannath,Tourism Development Corporation MD Pushkar, Jungle Lodges and Resorts MD Vijay Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Nanjundegowda, Project Director Gopal Krishna and others participated in the meeting.
