Boy killed as under-construction overhead water tank collapses

Hunsur: A 12-year-old boy, who was playing with his brother under an overhead water tank, which was being constructed, was killed while his brother suffered fractures on both his legs as the overhead tank collapsed on them yesterday afternoon. The incident took place at a private layout near Manuganahalli check-post in the taluk.

While the deceased boy has been identified as Sudeep, son of Manjunayak and Saraswathi couple of Hullenahalli village in the taluk, the boy, who has sustained fractures on both his legs, is 14-year-old Pradeep.

Details: Manjunayak and Saraswathi, who were working as labourers at a building, which is being constructed near Manuganahalli check-post, had brought their children along with them to the construction site.

An overhead water tank was also being constructed nearby and as the works were stopped, the two boys were playing under the water tank. But at about 4 pm yesterday, the water tank collapsed on them all of a sudden, trapping the two boys underneath.

Fire and Emergency Services personnel were informed, who rushed to the spot and began the rescue operation. When the Fire personnel cleared the debris, they found Sudeep dead and Pradeep with broken legs. Pradeep was shifted to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Fire officers Ramesh, Naveen Kumar, Ganganayak and Hunsur Police personnel took part in the rescue operation.

A case has been registered at Bilikere Police Station.
