Mysuru: Tension prevailed at a city hospital this morning as parents, relatives and villagers staged a protest alleging negligence on the part of the doctors, which had resulted in the death of a 14-year-old boy. The deceased boy has been identified as Shivakumar, son of Siddegowda and Nagamma of Kadavekatte hundi in Siddaramanahundi near here.
The boy, who was staying with his grandmother in Siddaramanahundi, was returning home after purchasing groceries on June 30, when a tractor carrying a water tank, ran over his legs injuring him seriously.
He was immediately rushed to JSS Hospital in Mysuru and later taken to Apollo BGS Hospitals where doctors amputated one of his legs on July 1 and another leg on July 3.
However, yesterday midnight, Shivakumar developed serious complications and his Blood Pressure is said to have dropped drastically, following which the doctors summoned his parents and informed them about the boy’s condition. But Shivakumar breathed his last early this morning.
As soon as the news about the boy’s death reached the village, relatives and villagers who reached the hospital staged a protest alleging negligence on the part of the doctors. They alleged that the hospital was only behind money and added that the boy would have been alive if timely treatment was started instead of waiting for the parents to deposit money. The protest was withdrawn after they took the body from the hospital to their village for cremation.
When SOM tried to contact the hospital, none were available for their comments.
