Bring back the amber lights at traffic signals

October 6, 2023

Sir,

For some reason the Traffic Police have done away with the amber lights and most traffic signals are just operating the red and green signals now.

This means a sudden transition from green to red, which invariably catches many motorists midway through the traffic junction, after the lights turn red, for no fault of theirs. It is also creating a dangerous situation for the motorists who try to stop suddenly after seeing the lights turn red.

There’s a reason why the amber light is there — it is a simple but highly effective design that has stood the test of time the world over.

On behalf of the law-abiding motorists and with Dasara round the corner, I request the Traffic Police to rectify this issue as soon as possible at all traffic signals.
