Counting of votes on May 2

Bengaluru: The Election Commission of India (ECI)on Tuesday announced the schedule for the by-elections to Belagavi Lok Sabha Constituency and two Assembly constituencies of Maski and Basavakalyana in the State. According to the schedule, the polling will take place on Apr. 17.

However, the ECI did not announce the by-poll schedule for Sindagi Assembly segment in Vijayapura district, whose representative M.C. Managuli of the JD(S) passed away on Jan. 28.

The by-election to Belagavi LS seat was necessitated by the demise of BJP MP and Union Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi in September last, while the by-poll for Basavakalyan Assembly segment in Bidar district has been necessitated by the death of Congress MLA Narayan Rao.

The by-poll to Maski Assembly segment in Raichur district is taking place as the then Congress MLA Pratap Gouda Patil, quit the seat after he switched over to  the BJP in 2019.

With the announcement of the by-poll schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect in Belagavi district and the two Assembly segments.

The election notification will be issued on Mar. 23 and the last date for filing of nominations is Mar. 30. The nomination papers will be scrutinised on Mar. 31 and the last day for withdrawal is               Apr. 3. The polling will be held on April 17 and the counting of votes will be taken up on May 2. Also, the by-poll to Tirupati Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh too will be held on Apr. 17.
