C.T. Ravi lodges complaint with DG&IGP; seeks action

January 1, 2025

Bengaluru: BJP MLC C.T. Ravi has escalated his allegations of Police misconduct, filing a formal complaint yesterday with Karnataka’s Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Alok Mohan.

A day earlier, Ravi had approached Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, accusing the Police of harassment, ill-treatment and illegal detention following an incident in the Legislative Council.

Ravi claimed in his complaint that the Police, acting on the alleged directions of Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, had treated him like a ‘contract killer’ and attempted to orchestrate a ‘fake encounter.’

Speaking to the media after visiting the DG&IGP Office, Ravi alleged, “The Belagavi Police detained me illegally, made me wander 400 kilometres in 17 hours and subjected me to harassment. This was done under the influence of powerful individuals with a motive to harm me.”

Ravi accused the Police of operating beyond their jurisdiction, especially since the incident took place within the Legislative Council premises. “This is a blatant violation of Parliamentary Rules, the Constitution and the Law. Never in the history of our country has such an incident occurred,” he stated.

The MLC further alleged that Shivakumar’s supporters and Minister Hebbalkar’s associates attempted to assassinate him. “They intended to kill me through a staged encounter. Their actions reflect complete disregard for the Law,” he claimed.

In his detailed complaint to the DG&IGP, Ravi sought disciplinary action against the Belagavi City Police Commissioner, the Belagavi District Superintendent of Police and other officials involved in the alleged misconduct. He also demanded accountability for their “hired goon-like behaviour” and abuse of power.

“The Legislative Council Speaker has already given me a clean chit and the ADGP has been instructed to provide me protection up to Chikkamagalur district. Despite this, the Police acted unlawfully, undermining constitutional safeguards,” Ravi said.
