Call to Law students to join Para Legal Volunteers Group in Court premises

Mysuru: Vidya Vikas Institute of Legal Studies (VVILS) along with the Mysuru District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Mysuru Bar Association organised a Legal Awareness Programme on Apr. 3.

S.K. Vontigodi, Principal District and Sessions Judge & Chairman of DLSA, who was the chief guest, called upon the students to learn more about the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) which is for creating awareness and helping citizens in availing the legal aid provided by the Government. He said it is not enough if law students learn law but should actively participate as volunteers in the Para Legal Volunteers Group in the Court premises. This will enable them to learn and get involved in imparting legal support to the weak and the needy.

B.P. Devamane, Senior Civil Judge & Member-Secretary, DLSA and Anand Kumar,  President, Bar Association, were the guests of honour.

In his address, Devamane  spoke on the transformation the democratic process has brought about by reaching justice to the common man, thanks to the Constitution which addresses the needs of the people. He also spoke on the alternative dispute resolution methods,  and how they can be a part of the awareness programme by bringing about justice to the people.

Anand Kumar looked forward to the students joining the legal fraternity to jointly work towards creating legal awareness and help the poor avail justice.

Dr. Michael Noronha, Director- Academics, Vidya Vikas Institute of Management Studies, advised the students to be the change they desire to bring about.

Principal of VVILS S.S. Manjunath welcomed. Dr. Sowmya proposed a vote of thanks.                                              Navya compered. Programme Convenor-cum-Assistant Prof. V. Santosh, Faculties and Students were present at the event which ended with National Anthem.
