Can we have a Swachha Dasara?

September 17, 2017

Sir,

At Dasara Food Mela, Dasara Exhibition and such gatherings of large number of people we see them indulge in littering the place with all sorts of things — leftover eatables, plates, cups, leaflets that they do not want to keep etc. It is one place where you can teach people to maintain cleanliness by forcing them to put all that they do not want into garbage bins, thereby keeping the surroundings clean.

The authorities will do well to FIRST put in place a proper mechanism to clear all filled-up garbage bins and replace them with empty ones and only then, FORCE all people to use the garbage bins positively, without any exception.

Some deterrent clause also should be announced for erring citizens because many of our citizens have to be taught things in the hard way. Can we expect a clean Food Mela and Dasara Exhibition venue this year?
