Cash for hostel seat: Youth held for cheating

Mysuru: City’s Cyber Crime Police have arrested a 19-year-old youth on charges of cheating hostel seat seekers who was getting money transferred to his mother’s bank account from them and later switching off his mobile phone.

The accused is P. Vijay, a resident of Changawadi village, Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar district.

On Nov. 26, L. Nagesh, Warden of Post Graduate Hostel for Boys at Anandanagar in city, had lodged a complaint with Cyber Crime Police that a person had added mobile number 63613-64625 to Post Graduate Hostel for Boys at Anandanagar run by Backward Classes Welfare Department on Google Map and introduce himself as the Hostel Warden to those seeking hostel seat.

He has further stated in the complaint that the person after receiving the call from hostel seat seekers used to  demand money for the seat and used to get the money transferred to his mother’s bank account (account number 641005274425) promising seat and later switch off the mobile phone thus cheating students and public.

Cyber Crime Police, who registered a case, took up the investigation and arrested the accused on Nov. 26 and produced him before a Court.

DCP M. Muthuraj and City Crime Branch (CCB) ACP V. Mariyappa supervised Cyber Crime Inspector N.J. Krishnappa, ASI K.J. Niranjan and staff M. Shivashankar, Ravikumar, Nagaraju, V.A. Madhu, Manjula, Veena and Nagarathna in the nabbing operation, according to a press release from the Public Relations Officer (PRO), City Police Commissioner’s  Office, Mysuru.
