Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru Jail authorities and Mandi Police, following seizure of narcotic substance which was being smuggled into the jail on Friday, conducted a surprise raid of a few cells yesterday.

The surprise raid was conducted from 4 pm to 6.15 pm in Cell No. 17 and 21 in Undertrial Wing; Cell No. 16 in Convicts Wing and Cell No. 23 in  Security Cell Wing.

During the inspection, Rs. 500 cash was found with accused Akash lodged at Cell No. 23 in Security Cell Wing and clay chillum (smoking pipe) used to smoke marijuana at Cell No. 17 in the Undertrial Wing, which have been handed over to Mandi Police.

It may be recalled that one Roopa, who had come to meet accused Akash, had attempted to smuggle narcotic substance into the jail on instruction from one Suresh and both of them were taken into custody on Friday.
