Rs. 10 lakh worth gold, silver articles recovered

Mysuru:  The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police have arrested five inter-State house burglars on Jan. 9 and 18. They have recovered gold and silver ornaments worth about Rs. 10 lakh besides seizing various tools used for committing the theft.

The arrested are 27-year-old Bharath of Bagowli village; 25-year-old Kaalu Davar of Tarsinga village; 30-year-old Maan Singh of Bagowli  village; 21-year-old Alam Singh of Bagowli village and 47-year-old Paar Singh of Shagia village, all in Madhya Pradesh.

With their arrest, the Police have solved a total of 28 cases — two cases each in Saraswathipuram and Ashokapuram Police Stations, seven cases in Nazarbad, one case each in Alanahalli and Ashokapuram Police Stations in city, four cases each in Shivamogga and Bhadravathi and three cases in Bellur Police Stations  besides solving four cases in Tamil Nadu.

Following house burglaries at DFRL, RMP Quarters and other places, City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subramanyeswara Rao had formed a Special Police team comprising CCB Officers and staff which was led by DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe.

The Special Police team, on Jan. 9 conducted an operation at Dr. Rajkumar Park on Harsha Road in Lashkar Mohalla and arrested Bharath and Kaalu Davar along with the tools such as cutter, iron rod, wrench spanners and screw driver used for committing house burglaries and subjected them to interrogation during which the accused are said to have confessed of committing house burglaries along with their accomplices at Mysuru, Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Bellur and Tamil Nadu.

Based on the information provided by the arrested duo, the CCB on Jan. 18 nabbed Maan Singh, Alam Singh and Paar Singh, who were planning to burgle houses in Hebbal.

Later, the CCB Police visited Madhya Pradesh and recovered the stolen gold ornaments.

Apart from burglary cases mentioned above, first accused Bharath was involved in a total of 23 cases in 2015 at Chittor, Kadapa and Nellor in Andhra Pradesh. He had come out on bail and was committing house burglaries by forming a team.

The accused, who had come to Mysuru by bus, were keeping a watch on houses which were locked using padlocks and on houses where newspapers were found lying on ground since many days. They used to hide in bushes and enter locked houses during night by breaking open the padlocks. They then used to take the booty to Madhya Pradesh and sell them.

Meanwhile, Police said that notices would be served on DFRL and RMP to install CCTV cameras and deploy more security guards at their Quarters.

DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe and CCB ACP B.R. Lingappa supervised CCB Inspectors Kiran Kumar, T. Ashok Kumar and A. Mallesh, Sub-Inspector Chandregowda and staff M.R. Ganesh, Asgar Khan, Joseph Noronha, Lakshmikanth, Yakub Shariff, Chikkanna, Ramaswamy, Chandrashekar, Niranjan, Prakash, Anand, Dhananjay, Srinivas, Shivakumar, Gautham, Sunil, Soma and Somachari in the nabbing and seizing operation, according to a press release from the Public Relations Officer (PRO), City Police Commissioner’s Office, Mysuru.

Precautions to be taken by residents

As burglars were targeting locked houses, the City Police have asked the public to take the following precautions while going out of station:

The Police have asked the residents not to use padlocks (hanging locks) to lock the house while going out of station but use door locks, inform the jurisdictional Police Station, request the neighbours to keep an eye on the house, ask   newspaper and milk vendors not to put papers and milk packets, do not keep more valuables and cash at house but keep them in bank lockers and do not keep jewellery in regular places like almirah or cupboard but keep it in a secret place.
