Centenary celebrations of Maharani’s Science College: Natl. Sanskrit Meet on Mar. 24, 25

The Department of Sanskrit, Maharani’s Science College for Women, in association with Amrutabharati, Mysore University Sanskrit Lecturers’ Forum, is organising the National Conference JIGNASA -17, Abhinavagupta’s Contribution to Sanskrit Literature, on Mar.24 and 25 at the Centenary Hall of Maharaja’s College in city.

Abhinavagupta of Kashmir was an erudite scholar in Sanskrit Literature. His great works like Lochana, a commentary on Anandavardhana’s Dhvanyaloka, Abhinavabharati, a commentary on Bharata’s Natyashastra, Tantraloka etc., bear testimony to his scholarship and creativity.

This being the millennium year of his death anniversary, the conference intends to throw light on the contribution of   Abhinavagupta.

The seminar will be inaugurated on Mar.24 at 10.30 am with keynote address by Vidwan Dr. Lakshmitatachar, President, Samskruti Foundation, Mysuru. Dr. A. Nagaraju, Principal, Maharani’s Science College for Women, will preside. Vidwan Dr. H.V. Nagaraja Rao, Chairman, Sri Poornapragna Samshodhana Mandiram, Bengaluru, will talk on ‘Life and achievements of Abhinavagupta.’ Vidwan M. A. Hegde, Retd. Principal, MGC College, Siddapura, will talk on ‘Salient Features of Lochana on Dhvanyaloka.’ Dr. Madhusudana Adiga, Associate Professor, Kalabhairaveshvara Sanskrit Vedagama College, Adichunchanagiri Kshetra, Nagamangala, will deliver a lecture on ‘Rasasvarupa in Abhinavabharati.’

On Mar.25, Dr. Boris Marjanovic, California, USA, a scholar in Kashmir Shaivism, will talk on ‘Tantraloka – A study’; S. Suryaprakash Pandit, Chief Sub-Editor, Prajavani, Bengaluru, will deliver a lecture on ‘Shaivadarshana of Abhinavagupta’; Vidwan Dr. A. V. Nagasampige, Director, Sri Poornaprajna Samshodhana Mandiram, Bengaluru, will talk on ‘Bhashya on Bhagavadgeeta’; Vidushi Dr. H.P. Devaki, Director, Oriental Research Institute, Mysuru, will be the chief guest at the valedictory function.

Presidential address will be by Dr. A. Nagaraju, Principal, Maharani’s Science College. Dr. D. Sheela Kumari, Associate Professor of Sanskrit, is the Convener of the conference. Dr. M.P.
