Centenary celebrations of Ittigegud Karaga Mahotsava from May 15

Mysore/Mysuru: The 5-day centenary celebrations (100th year) of the famed Sri Chamundeshwari and Sri Maariyamma Karaga Mahotsava of Ittigegud in the city, will take place in a grand manner from May 15 to 19.

The celebrations will commence with the performance of rituals to the temple deities Sri Chamundeshwari and Sri Maariyamma Devi at 6 am on May 15, following which Prathama Abhisheka will be performed. Subsequently, all the associated rituals will be performed and the Karaga will leave the temple for Sri Madivala Temple at 4 pm.

Later, the Karaga will pass through Siddappa Kalyana Mantapa, First Cross of Post Office Road, Lower Model House, Tank Bund Road 1st Cross etc., and return to the temple.

On May 16, the Karaga will leave the temple at 7 am and pass through Garadi Beedi, Hosabeedi First to Fifth Cross, Old Model House, SRT and Garage to reach New Model House. Later, the Karaga will return to the temple passing through Ganapathi Temple.

On May 17, the Karaga will leave the temple at 7 am and pass through Ittigegud’s Sri Satyanarayanaswamy Temple, Second Cross, Periyathambi Road, Sri Siddappaji Temple, Arunachalam Road and  Lokaranjan Mahal Road before reaching Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple. Later, the Karaga will return to the temple, passing through Kammalageri, Zoo and Bhavani Road. On May 18, the Karaga will leave the temple at 7 am and will pass through Kelaginakeri Sri Kuppamma Temple, Lakshmi Temple and other main thoroughfares of Ittigegud, before returning to the temple, following which Mahamangalarathi will be performed later in the evening.

On May 19, the concluding day, Ambali Puja will be performed to Ammanavara Karaga, followed by Tambittu Arati by devotees at 4 pm. Later, the Karaga Utsava will pass through the main thoroughfares of Ittigegud and subsequently, he Karaga Uyyalotsava will be held at 11 pm. The rituals and celebrations will end with the performance of Mahamangalarathi at 12 midnight.

The Karaga will be immersed at Paschimavahini near Srirangapatna at 5 am on May 20.

Vadakanji Puja and other rituals will be held at 7 pm on May 26, according to Sri Renukadevi Karaga Temple Trust.
