Mysuru: Union Minister of State for Education Dr. Sukanta Majumdar has assured that the Central Government remains fully committed to the comprehensive development of the Centre of Excellence for Classical Kannada (CESCK), located in Mysuru, the cultural capital of Karnataka.

This was conveyed by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.

Responding to a detailed question raised in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister provided an extensive reply, according to a press release issued by MP Yaduveer.

The MP shared several key details, including concerns about the Centre’s current status. He noted that the Centre has not yet been granted full academic and administrative autonomy.

The query also sought clarification on whether recommendations had been received from the State Government or the Kannada Sahitya Parishat regarding the Centre’s autonomy and whether any formal proposal had been submitted to grant it autonomous status.

The Union Minister clarified that the CESCK, previously housed within the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) campus in Mysuru, has now been relocated to the University of Mysore, following formal requests.

He further stated that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 prioritises the promotion of all Indian languages, including Classical Kannada and other classical Indian languages.

Measures are being taken to systematically review and enhance the performance of all classical language centres, including CESCK.

MP Yaduveer emphasised that the Union Government is steadfast in its support for the growth and advancement of the Classical Kannada Centre and remains committed to its long-term development.
