Mysuru: Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII) inaugurated its state-of-the-art Cervical Cancer Prevention Centre at its premises on Gaganachumbi Double Road in Kuvempunagar recently marking a significant step in the fight against cervical cancer in the State.
District Surveillance Officer Dr. D.G. Nagaraj and District Reproductive and Child Health Officer Dr. Mohammed Shiraz Ahmed were the chief guests. Members from Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) and JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research were present.
The Centre is a part of the newly launched Mysore Consortium against Cervical Cancer, is the only facility in city equipped with a 3D Colposcope and an automated platform to detect and quantify high-risk HPV types. These advancements will aid efforts in Karnataka and India that align with the World Health Organisation and Government of India’s goal of eliminating cervical cancer.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Mohammed Shiraz Ahmed emphasised the importance of creating awareness while Dr. Nagaraj highlighted public-private partnerships in improving healthcare access.
