Bengaluru: The results of the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2024, the gateway to Undergraduate professional courses such as Engineering, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Veterinary Science etc., in colleges of Karnataka, were announced in Bengaluru on Saturday evening.
Much to the surprise of everyone, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) announced the results suddenly at 5 pm yesterday. The KEA sent a press note to the media regarding the results.
The students, taken by surprise, scrambled to see the results on the KEA website: http:// karresults.nic.in, resulting in a network jam.
Interestingly, of the top 10 rank holders in Engineering, nine were from colleges affiliated to other boards and only one student was from a State Pre-University College. The trend was similar in all the seven streams with only three students from State PU Colleges among the top 10.
Notably, none from Mysuru finds a place in the top 10 in any of the seven streams — Engineering, Pharmacy (B. Pharma), Pharmacy (Pharma-D), Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS), Agriculture, Veterinary Science (B.V.Sc) and Nursing (B.Sc).
The CET exam was held on Apr. 18 and 19 across the State amid a row over out-of-syllabus questions for more than 50 marks. Following protests by students and parents, the Department of Higher Education had announced that the evaluation will be done by omitting out of syllabus questions.
Harsha Karthikeya Vutukuri of Narayana Olympiad School, Sahakaranagar, Bengaluru, emerged as the State topper in Engineering stream and also bagged the second rank in B. Pharma.
S.R. Nihar of Expert Pre-University College, Mangaluru, got the first rank in BNYS and B.Sc (Agriculture). V. Kalyan of Sri Chaitanya Techno School, Marathahalli, Bengaluru, secured the top rank in four streams- Veterinary, B-Pharma, Pharma-D and B.Sc (Nursing).
According to the KEA, as many as 3,10,314 out of the 3,49,653 students who had registered, appeared for CET-2024. Of these, 2.75 lakh students were eligible for Engineering courses, 2.19 lakh students for BNYS, 2.15 lakh for B.Sc (Agriculture), 2.19 lakh for B.V.Sc, 2.78 lakh for B-Pharma , 2.79 lakh for Pharma-D and 2.28 lakh for B.Sc (Nursing).
