Chain-snatcher who targeted woman with chilli powder held

Mysore/Mysuru: The Alanahalli Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a daring daylight chain-snatching incident that took place on Oct. 18 in Giridarshini Layout.

According to the complaint filed by Soumya, the victim, she was returning home at Chamundeshwari Block of Giridarshini Layout on her scooter (KA-11-W-2726) at around 9 am after dropping her children at school. When she reached near Lalithadripura, an unidentified man approached her and threw chilli powder into her eyes.

Taking advantage of her momentary disorientation, the assailant attempted to snatch her gold mangalsutra, weighing about 45 grams. Soumya resisted and managed to hold on to part of the chain, but the accused escaped with approximately 20 grams of gold.

Acting promptly, Alanahalli Police registered a case and launched an intensive investigation. A special team comprising Head Constable P. Chetan and Constables Kiran Rathod, Santosh Pawar, Manjunath Gadagaigol, and Mallikarjun tracked down the suspect on Oct. 26 around 8 am near Lalithadripura village.

The accused, Rajesh Nayaka, a resident of Alathur, Chamarajanagar, was arrested and brought to the Alanahalli Police Station. During interrogation, the Police recovered the stolen portion of the mangalsutra, valued at Rs. 2 lakh. The operation was carried out under the leadership of Inspector G.S. Swarna, assisted by PSIs Ramesh and M.S. Nityananda, with guidance from senior city Police officers and support from Kumar of the CDR and TMC divisions.
