Chamundeshwari Temple collects Rs. 1.58 crore

Beats last one-and-a-half month’s collection by Rs. 46 lakh 

Mysuru: The famous and most revered Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill has recorded a hundi collection of Rs.1.58 crore. The hundis were opened yesterday and this is the collection of the last one-and-a-half months. 

When the collection was counted, it threw up a figure of Rs. 1,57,81,481 (Rs.1.58 crore) to the government. This collection is Rs. 46 lakh more than what was collected during last counting. This time, currency notes of various denominations worth Rs.1,54,31,034 were collected and coins of various denominations worth Rs. 3,50,447 were collected. 

Temple priests said that there has been a marked increase in the number of devotees who visit the Chamundeshwari shrine. It is an important and popular pilgrimage centre in South Karnataka and the number of visitors peak during Ashada, Chamundeshwari Vardhanti and Dasara.

Apart from entry tickets, the temple gets good revenue from its hundis (offering box) and is considered as one of the richest temples in Karnataka after Kukke Subramanya, Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara, Male Mahadeshwara temples. Apart from cash,  the temple also receives donations and gold and silver as offerings.
