Bengaluru: Even as Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa (BSY) asserted that he would remain the Chief Minister for the next two years of the current term of the Assembly, the BJP High Command is said to be mulling a change of guard in the State and the fate of Yediyurappa is likely to be decided on June 18.
Though the BJP High Command had recently clarified that Yediyurappa will remain the Chief Minister at least until the next election due in 2023, speculations are rife in political circles that the party High Command will be sending Karnataka Party In-charge Arun Singh to Bengaluru, for attending the BJP Legislature Party meeting to be called shortly. Arun Singh is said to be caught between the pro- and anti-Yediyurappa lobbies in the BJP camp.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the State-In charge Arun Singh is likely to arrive in Bengaluru in a day or two and hold a meeting with members of the Yediyurappa Cabinet on June 16, followed by BJP Legislature Party meeting on June 17 and BJP Core-Committee meeting on June18. After these meetings, Arun Singh will report to the Party High Command following which the BJP top brass will decide on the fate of BSY — whether to continue him as the CM or replace him.
Although just a few days ago Arun Singh had openly asserted that there is no change of guard in the State, the anti-Yediyurappa camp is said to be hell bent on replacing him and as such, the BJP High Command is all set to put to rest the leadership change demand issue once and for all on June 18, based on Singh’s report.
