Bengaluru: Health and Medical Education Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar has called upon doctors to work with dedication and commitment to take healthcare services at Government Hospitals to world-class and change the people’s perception of about Government facilities.
Virtually addressing 1,763 newly-recruited doctors by Department of Health and Family Welfare here recently, he said the recruitment of doctors amidst pandemic has been historic because of three reasons.
Firstly, this was the biggest recruitment drive taken up by the Government for the Health Department to recruit 1,763 doctors at a time.
Secondly, this was the first time that the Department of Health and Family Welfare has recruited doctors directly as Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) was handling the recruitment process earlier.
Thirdly, the whole process of recruitment was done in a record time of six months.
The Minister said Government hospitals were being looked down upon by many even today without any reason. There was responsibility on the shoulders of new doctors to bring in fresh enthusiasm, energy and attitude towards Government facilities. It was possible to change the system and make Government Hospitals world-class but it required commitment and determination. Patients, who come to Government Hospitals, for treatment belong to lower strata of society. The purpose of having these facilities was to provide a good healthcare at very affordable rate. “ Doctors must work as a bridge between Government and people to make this a reality”.
Dr. Sudhakar offered a big salute to those who died due to Corona while treating patients and termed them as ‘ martyrs’. Doctors must also take care of their health as they serve others, he added.
Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), K.V. Trilok Chandra, Commissioner, Health and Family Welfare and other senior officers were present.
Minister preaches Pancha Sutras for new Docs
Dr. Sudhakar preached Pancha Sutras to doctors on board. They are:
1. Patient-centric: There is a need to make Government Hospitals more patient-centric.
2. Punctuality: Common complaint is that Government doctors are very casual about their duty hours. We need to change this mindset and work like private sector.
3. Quality of treatment: Government hospitals have top quality medical infrastructure, yet rich go to private hospitals. We need to change this trend.
4. Upkeep of Hospitals: Though most of the Government Hospitals have big campuses in prime locations in the cities and towns, their upkeep is rather poor.
5. Honesty and commitment: Many Government doctors work in private clinics and hospitals. They must dedicate service to Government facilities.
