It is regrettable to witness chaotic scenes atop Chamundi Hill during this Dasara, particularly this past Sunday. Private cars were parked too close to the ticket counter, while ample space on the Temple’s north side was occupied by iron beams and frames from ongoing construction work, obstructing the free movement of devotees.

With a significant influx of pilgrims expected during Dasara holidays, the construction work should have been completed before the fest or postponed until after. This would have allowed the space to be utilised for parking VVIPs, VIPs, or those who cannot walk long distances, as well as providing room for Police on duty and allowing devotees to move freely without the risk of injury from crossing the iron frames. Introducing battery-operated vehicles could help reduce congestion by transporting senior citizens and people with disabilities from the parking lot to the temple. Additionally, a complete parking ban should be enforced during Dasara, Ashada Fridays and extended holidays.

It may also be worthwhile to consider prohibiting private vehicles on the hill during these times, similar to Ashada Fridays, and using KSRTC buses to transport devotees, potentially for a fare if not free. This approach could significantlly alleviate vehicular chaos atop the hill during Dasara, especially on holidays.
