Sir,
Kudos to Mysuru City Traffic Police for their action in apprehending the minors and their parents for all sorts of traffic rules violations (apropos the news item “Law catches up with underage drivers” in SOM dated Feb.28).
Minors definitely cannot ride a vehicle without the knowledge or permission of their parents or guardians. Because of peer pressure or wrong influence, minors commit traffic rules violations. It is the responsibility of the elders to guide them correctly. Both the minors and their parents or guardians deserve to be punished strictly as per the law when the traffic rules are violated.
Unfortunately there are many haughty parents who keep boasting the driving skills of their minor wards. They are either unaware or conveniently forget that these minors who lack maturity can invite accidents.
Initially we could see rampant triple riding among the youngsters. Now we can also see four persons riding a two-wheeler.
With extra vigil in the vicinity of schools and colleges, Traffic Police will be able to curtail the minors from committing traffic rules violations.
Next target of Mysuru City Traffic Police should be the two-wheelers moving with deliberately tampered Registration Number Plate or the vehicles without number plate.
The trend of detaching the registration number plate is now catching up with the youngsters, with the sole aim to escape Police dragnet when they commit violations.
