Checking traffic offenders: Some suggestions to Cops

November 25, 2022

Sir,

This refers to the news item titled ‘Police intensify drive against traffic violators’ in yesterday’s Star of Mysore. Checking traffic offenders is fine but please do not harass office-goers during peak hours. This is my suggestion to the Police who are bent upon intensifying the drive against traffic violators.

I for one do not have anything against the so-called ‘Operation Triple Ride’ or the drive against helmetless riding and drunken driving among other violations.

As we have seen in the past, we have come across various issues pertaining to accidents and inconvenience to the commuters, especially office-goers both in the morning and evening (peak hours). Hence, I suggest the DCP and the ACP (Traffic) if they could consider relaxing their checking drive between 8.30 am and 10.30 am and 5 pm and 7 pm.

Also, if they could consider providing the helmet for helmetless violators on the spot (along with the fine or without it) and get LLR or DL done for those who are found to be without one.

I am sure insurance providers would be more than happy to accompany Traffic Police teams during the drive as they can provide insurance for those who do not possess or for those who carry lapsed insurances.

And as far as triple riding and stunt riding is concerned, please cancel their licences and make them pay a hefty fine for this should teach a lesson to others.

I am also sure that collecting fines isn’t the only objective of this checking drive?
