Child prodigy Rahul Vellal’s  concert in city on Nov. 17

Raaga Music Academy is presenting popular Child Prodigy Rahul Vellal for its Smt. D. Rama Bai Memorial Endowment Concert on Saturday (Nov. 17) at 6 pm, at Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, JLB Road.

Eleven-year-old Rahul, son of Ravishankar Vellal and Hema, started learning Karnatak music at the age of four. Presently, he is under the tutelage of Vidu. Kalavathy Avadhoot, for Karnatak music, Vid. K.U. Jayachandra Rao for mridanga and Abhishek for Western Piano (Trinity School of Music, London). He excels in academics too and is a recipient of CCRT National-level Scholarship for Karnatak music from the Central government and Bharat Ratna M.S. Subbulakshmi Fellowship 2018 for Karnatak vocal.

Rahul has won several music competitions like the State-level CEMA for Karnatak classical, Sugama Samrat light music contest, Bengaluru Gayana Samaja’s Purandaradasa & Thyagaraja competitions, Runner up at National-level Sangeet Samrat competition etc. He has sung several musical videos like Paluke Bangaramayeena, Brahmam Okate, Shivashtakam, Vaishnavo Janoto of well-known Music Director Kuldeep M. Pai, which was released worldwide on YouTube, collectively crossing 2.2 crore views till date. His Baro Krishnayya unplugged, performed for MadRasana, was featured in the BBC Asian Channel.

On Saturday, Rahul will be accompanied by a team of seasoned professionals — Vidu. Nalina Mohan on the violin, Vid. Nikshith Puttur on the mridanga and Vid. Raghunandan Rao on the ghata. Dr. N.V. Krishnamurthy, Director, Prajna Kuteera, will deliver a talk on Healthy Living through Ayurveda and Yoga, at 5.15 pm, prior to the concert.
