Chinnara Mela application forms sold out in 90 minutes

April 7, 2019

Mysuru: Ending years of confusion in getting application forms for the popular ‘Chinnara Mela,’ a summer camp for children organised by Rangayana, Mysuru, the parents of aspirant children found a novel way to amicably sort out the issue by forming a voluntary team among themselves.

As the Rangayana had announced that it would issue 300 application forms for the month-long annual ‘Chinnara Mela’ that starts from Apr.13, parents lined up at the Rangayana premises on Hunsur Road from last night itself and the queue continued to swell with each passing hour with more and more parents joining it.

As the queue swelled, the parents formed a group of 5-6 volunteers among themselves and the volunteers were tasked with preparing a list based on first-come first-served basis.

Accordingly, the volunteers prepared the list of 300 parents without any confusion. Soon as the Rangayana counter for issuing application forms (Application fee Rs.100) opened at 10 am, the first 300 among the queue were allowed near the counter.

The sale of application forms (300) ended in about 90 minutes at 11.30 pm, thus ending the confusion and chaos that were common all these years. However, there was a bit of resentment as 13 names in the prepared list of 300 applicants failed to turn up at the moment, when the volunteers prepared a subsidiary list of the next 13 parents in waiting, which was opposed by some. However, the issue was sorted out amicably in a couple of minutes.

This year’s ‘Chinnara Mela’ will be held from April 13 to May 8.

All the applications received will be scrutinised and the list of children selected for participation, will be announced at 4 pm on April 12, when the parents are required to submit a DD for Rs.2,500 (per child) as fee for the month-long summer camp along with birth certificate or Aadhaar card of the participating child.
