Mysuru” P.R. Thippeswamy Prathistana and Department of Kannada and Culture together had organised ‘P.R. Thippeswamy Kala Sambhrama’ at Sri Kalaniketana School of Art in Vijayanagar 2nd Stage here recently. Retired Vice-Chancellor of Folklore University Prof. Ambalika Hiriyanna conferred ‘Chitrakala’ award on artist B.R. Korthy of Davanagere and ‘Janapada Kala’ award on folk artiste Manjamma Jogathi.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Hiriyanna opined that Fine Arts Academy was ably encouraging art like painting and bemoaned that despite the existence of Janapada Academy, folklore sector was not receiving the necessary support and encouragement. He observed that folklore museums abroad receive utmost importance and lauded Thippeswamy Prathishtana in effectively promoting folklore. He contended that today’s youth are not drawn towards art and folklore which is a distressing trend.
Prathishtana President Rajashekar Kadamba, Treasurer H.M. Parameshwaraiah, Convenor Rudranna Harthikote, District Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Y.D. Rajanna and others were present.
