Mysore/Mysuru: In a joint effort to make Mysuru a more tourist-friendly city, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru, in partnership with the Mysuru City Police, organised an event aimed at promoting road safety awareness and fostering respect for the driving profession. The event, held on Sept. 13 at Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE), addressed critical topics including road safety guidelines, work effectiveness and the significance of respecting the driving profession for city bus drivers, conductors and coordinators.

The event’s focus on a holistic approach to road safety encompassed essential subjects such as behavioural approaches, defensive driving, road safety compliances, visual basics, drivers’ attitudes and lifestyles, along with technical aspects.

Guests including Ramesh Banoth, Commissioner of Police, Mysuru, Dr. N. Muthukumar, Past Chairman, CII Karnataka, Sam Cherian, Chairman of CII Mysuru, and several Government officials from RTO (Regional Transport Office) and KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) attended the programme. 

In his address, Ramesh underlined the value of life and family, stating, “We must focus on defensive driving and remember that every life matters.” He stressed that the training sessions aimed to provide comprehensive instructions on road safety practices, adherence to traffic regulations and responsible driving techniques, with the goal of reducing accidents and ensuring safe commutes for all.

Dr. Muthukumar highlighted the importance of work effectiveness in delivering an impeccable public transportation experience. He stated, “To enhance service quality for passengers, valuable skills and knowledge are required, and that’s what we will be covering today.” He also acknowledged Cummins-Meritor & Kalyani group’s commitment to supporting similar events in the future.

Sam Cherian stressed the need to respect the driving profession and its crucial role in daily life. He praised these skilled professionals as ‘life charioteers’ who ensure the flow of goods, services and people with dedication to safety and efficiency.

The event featured expert trainers and professionals conducting engaging sessions to empower city bus drivers and conductors to excel in their roles. The aim is to make Mysuru a safer city, enhance tourism and create a positive socio-economic impact on the region.
