Mysore/Mysuru: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mysuru Zone, has initiated a Tree Census Project for Mysuru city, aimed at creating a credible, ward-wise baseline to support Mysuru’s environmental planning and long-term sustainable growth.
A scientific tree census effort has already commenced in the city. Mysuru Green Projects (MGP) and the Centre For Advanced Learning (CFAL), Mangaluru, along with a few academic institutions, have begun systematic documentation.
As per the preliminary progress shared, around 15,000 trees have been counted across two wards and the city-wide tree population is estimated to be over 2,00,000.
Building on this foundation, CII Mysuru is now taking the initiative to scale the effort through wider participation from its member industries and institutions, with the intent of enabling a comprehensive, city-wide tree census in the months ahead.
With phased implementation and collective participation from industry, institutions and citizens, CII Mysuru is endeavouring to complete the city-wide tree census by March 2026.
To formally roll out the initiative and equip participating organisations, CII Mysuru is organising a Tree Census Project Kick-Off and Train-the-Trainer Session on Monday (Dec. 22) between 5 pm and 6 pm at IS Seminar Hall, Golden Jubilee Bhavan, JSS Science and Technology University, Mysuru.
The session will include a practical orientation on the tree census approach and hands-on training on data capture and collation using a dedicated mobile application, enabling nominated institutional teams to lead the activity within their respective organisations.
Savitha Mallappa, Convenor, CII Mysuru CSR & DEI Panel, noted that the initiative is a collective opportunity for industry, institutions and citizens to contribute towards a greener and healthier Mysuru. She has appealed to academic institutions and organisations to join hands in the city-wide tree census initiative.
