Citing piling losses, Mysuru hoteliers demand unlock

June 22, 2021

Mysore/Mysuru: Having received little to no footfall since March last year, hoteliers in Mysuru have urged the State Government to ease unlock restrictions. It is not fair to keep Mysuru under continued curbs and a chance should be given to them to survive, they said.

Submitting a memorandum to Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha, the Mysuru Hotel Owners Association at their office at Krishnamurthypuram yesterday, the hoteliers, led by their President C. Narayanagowda wished the MP on his birthday and urged him to impress upon the Government to relax restrictions and allow them to operate, following the norms.

The hoteliers apprised the MP as to how the hotel and hospitality industry has collapsed without business since the last one-and-a-half years and if these restrictions continue, it would be difficult for the industry and its stakeholders even to survive.

At a time when every other hotels in other districts are allowed to open up in the unlock process, keeping Mysuru out of this is not right as Mysuru depends entirely on tourism revenue and there are many allied sectors that depend on tourism revenue, Narayanagowda stated appealing the MP to do the needful.

He expressed fear that as Bengaluru has been kept out of the purview of lockdown, there is a danger of many hotel workers migrating to Bengaluru in search of jobs, putting Mysuru hotel industry in further jeopardy.

Responding to the request, the MP told the hoteliers that he will bring the issue to the notice of Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and Mysuru District Minister S.T. Somashekar.
