Citizens’ drive to identify Mysuru’s heritage trees

June 1, 2025

Mysuru:  In a bid to preserve the city’s green legacy, Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) and Mysore’s Eco Footprints have jointly launched a citizen-driven initiative to identify heritage trees across Mysuru.

The initiative invites residents to help locate and document iconic trees that have stood the test of time — some for decades, others for centuries — serving as silent witnesses to the city’s transformation. The goal is to raise awareness and protect these remarkable natural landmarks.

Dr. S. Natesh, author of Iconic Trees of India, has provided guidelines for identifying heritage trees. Trees may qualify based on age, size, historical or cultural relevance, religious significance or association with notable events.

Citizens who know of such trees in their neighbourhoods or wish to participate in the campaign can reach out to Mysore’s Eco Footprints at +91 84335 53734, according to a press release by Sanjay Dattatri, Convener of MGP.
