City celebrates Gandhi Jayanthi

Mysore/Mysuru: “We all should imbibe the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi who propagated the message of peace to the entire world and also the simplicity and integrity of Lal Bahadur Shastri. Gandhiji’s simplicity and leadership qualities have been hailed and accepted by the entire world,” said District Minister S.T. Somashekar.

The Minister was speaking after garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Square, on the occasion of the 154th Gandhi Jayanthi.

“The ideals of Gandhiji like non-violence, spiritualism, integrity, discipline are a source of inspiration to everybody. The ideology of Gandhiji is essential not just to India, but to the entire world,” the Minister said.

“Gandhiji followed the principles of truth and non-violence during the freedom struggle and led a very simple life,” he added.

The birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri coincided with the Gandhiji. Paying tributes to Shastri Somashekar said that Shastri is the simplest Prime Minister of the country and coined the slogan ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan.’ He was also an able administrator. We all should imbibe the ideals of the two great personalities in our daily lives.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. Bagadi Gautham, Zilla Pamchayat (ZP) CEO B.R. Poornima, Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman Mirle Srinivas Gowda and others were present.

In a separate Gandhi Jayanthi celebration organised by the District Administration and Mysuru City Corporation at Town Hall, all community prayers were held. ‘Swachhata Pratigna Vidhi’ was administered to the audience. MCC presented appreciation certificates to civic workers who cleaned the city and drew colourful Rangoli’s at 100 places across city. Religious leaders of various communities, MLA Tanveer Sait, MCC Additional Deputy Commissioner M.J. Roopa and others were present on the occasion.
