City cricketer selected for Vizzy Trophy

Mysuru: 19-year-old Samarth Hegde, a first semester Civil Engineering student of Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering (VVCE) in city, has been selected to represent the South Zone in the prestigious Vizzy Trophy organised by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) scheduled to be held at Panjim Gymkhana Ground in Goa from Mar. 1 to 5.

Samarth, a left-arm spinner and a left hand batter, trains at Mysuru Gymkhana Club and has steadily built a reputation as a promising cricketer. His selection for Vizzy Trophy comes on the back of an impressive performance representing VTU team at South Zone Inter-University Men’s Cricket Championship 2025-26, held at JSS Science and Technological University, Mysuru, recently during which he picked up 11 wickets and scored 96 runs in three innings.

The VTU team secured second place in the tournament and qualified for the All-India Inter-University Championship 2025-26, further highlighting Samarth’s contribution to the squad’s success.

The Vizzy Trophy is regarded as one of the most prominent platforms for emerging University-level cricketers in the country, offering players an opportunity to showcase their talent at a  National level.

Vidyavardhaka Sangha President Gundappa Gowda, Secretary P. Vishwanath, Treasurer Shrishyla Ramannavar, VVCE Principal Dr. B. Sadashive Gowda have congratulated Samarth for his achievement.

Samarth Hegde is the son of Shyamsundar Hegde and Shubha Hegde, residents of J.P Nagar.
