City Engineering College Professors design agri portal for farmers

Mysore/Mysuru: GSSS Institute of Engineering and Technology for Women (GSSSIETW), Mysuru, has developed a portal http://www.farmrida.com/ to support the Agriculture Department Resource Managers, policy-makers, scientists and farmers with readily available information for decision support in the field of agriculture. The portal reflects agriculture information and for decision support related to Nanjangud Taluk, Mysuru district.

The portal has been designed and developed by Dr. J. Jayanth, Associate Professor, R. Aravind, Assistant Professor, C.M. Amulya, Project Assistant, at VTU Research Centre, Department of Electronics and Communication, GSSSIETW, Mysuru, with Financial Grants sanctioned by Natural Resource Database Management System (NRDMS), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

This project deals with Spatial Agricultural Information and Decision Support System for Land-use Management. It is a data driven application having three modules — Agro-socio-economic-information, Crops’ Information & Management, Agri DSS and Database Update Module. 

This portal will help farmers in the following ways: 

1. Information & Management of various crops like Cotton, Paddy, Banana, Sugarcane and Pulses that are grown in Nanjangud Taluk.

2. DSS provides options for calculating the quantity of yield is predicted based on the Soil health card, Crop pattern, diversification index and Income generation module that helps in calculating the income for the crops grown by the farmers, according to a press release from GSSSIETW Principal Dr. M. Shivakumar.
