Mysuru: Mysuru is aiming for a Guinness World Record on International Yoga Day on June 21 by holding the largest yoga demonstration at one place. And as a prelude, a rehearsal will be held in the city on June 11 (tomorrow) where over 9,000 yoga enthusiasts will perform yoga at one place. One more rehearsal will be held on June 18.

On June 21, as many as 60,000 enthusiasts are expected to perform yoga for the record-breaking feat, said Mysuru Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep. Addressing reporters at his office this morning, the DC said that tomorrow, simultaneous yoga will be performed between 7 am and 8 am with participants assembling at the venues as early as 6 am.

Mysuru is known as the Yoga capital of the world and it has been involved in spreading the knowledge of yoga that is a unique contribution. Yoga enthusiasts, school and college students and the citizens of Mysuru are participating in large numbers for the rehearsals, he said.

“Tomorrow, we are expecting 9,000 yoga enthusiasts to perform the feat and on June 18, over 25,000 people are expected to participate and on the main event day on June 21, we are aiming at mobilising 60,000 participants to break the record,” he said and added that they had set a target of 73,000 participants and will make arrangements for 63,000 participants.

“We are sure of over 9,000 participants tomorrow as we have issued free passes with barcodes and the moment a participant enters the venue, the barcode scanner will record his/ her presence,” the DC explained.

Randeep said that in 2014 at Perumbudur in Tamil Nadu Vidyashala School broke a Guinness record by performing Chain Link Yoga where 3,000 students participated. In 2015, when the first Yoga Day was celebrated in New Delhi, over 38,000 people performed yoga in New Delhi’s Rajpath. In Lucknow, on June 21, over 50,000 people are performing yoga in one place in a record-breaking attempt.

“We will try and beat Lucknow by gathering over 60,000 people and we are sure of breaking the Chain Link Yoga Record,” he said and added that the District Administration wants to bring International fame to Mysuru city as the “World’s Yoga Capital”.

District Administration, Departments of Tourism, AYUSH and Nehru Yuva Kendra have jointly organised the event in association with yoga schools, he said.  Deputy Director of Tourism Department H.P. Janardhan, Convener of Nehru Yuva Kendra M.N. Nataraj, AYUSH District Officer Dr. Seethalakshmi and others were present.
