City lorry associations not to support today’s strike

June 18, 2018

Mysuru: Various lorry associations in city will not be supporting the indefinite strike of truck operators from across the country and affiliated to the All India Confederation of Goods Vehicle Owners’ Association (ACOGOA) today.

Kodandaramu, President of Mysuru District Lorry Owners’ Association, said: “We are not supporting today’s lorry strike. Trucks are transporting goods as usual in city.” Revanna, President of Local Lorry Owners’ Association, said that he called  a meeting at 12 noon today and then decide whether to extend support to the strike or not.

Jayashekara, President of Bandipalya Lorry Owners’ Association, said that a meeting has been convened at APMC premises here at 4 pm today to discuss about joining the strike from tomorrow and added that taking off lorries off the road all of a sudden would cause severe problems to the public.

Meanwhile, the Lorry Association (Shanmugappa group) would launch the strike in Bengaluru on July 20 in support of the indefinite nationwide strike called by All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) to urge the Government to fulfil their various demands.

The truckers are staging the indefinite nationwide strike from July 20 against the oppressive policies of the Government such as, continuous abnormal diesel price hike, non-transparent toll policy, annual hike in Third Party Insurance premium and corruption and harassment on roads by RTO officials, Police and CTOs among others.

A letter in this regard has been sent to the Prime Minister’s office by S.K. Mittal of All India Motor Transport Congress, New Delhi.
