City Police foil suicide attempt by former Kodagu resort staffer

April 1, 2025

Mysuru: A former employee of a resort in Virajpet in Kodagu district accused a resort owner of harassment and torture in a Facebook live video, before attempting suicide.

The incident led to a swift response from the city’s Lashkar Police, who traced the live video to a lodge and took the man into custody. He is being taken to Virajpet for further questioning. The man, identified as Praveen Aravind, a resident of Gandhinagar in Virajpet, detailed the alleged abuse in a 15-minute live video, claiming he was pushed to the brink due to the harassment.

The live video prompted the Police to quickly trace his location in a race against time to prevent a tragedy. Using technology and location clues, Police team reached the lodge and arrived at his door just before he could take the extreme step.

Praveen questioned the injustice he had suffered, expressing despair over the situation and his inability to lead a life, citing his family’s arrest in Tamil Nadu by the authorities.

During live broadcast, Praveen raised concerns about multiple illegal activities at the resort, including illegal tree felling, encroachment of forest land and construction of villas without proper licences. He urged Police to arrest the resort owner before his death. Lashkar Police have taken Praveen into custody and investigating.
