City Police launch ‘Crime Prevention Month’

Mysore/Mysuru: The City Police launched ‘Crime Prevention Month’ campaign by taking out an awareness rally in the city this morning.

The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. K.V. Rajendra in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the Palace North Gate. The rally, in which City Police personnel and hundreds of students from Vidya Vikas, GSSS, Bantwal Madhava Shenoy, Maharshi, Farooquia Educational Institutions and other schools, passed through Albert Victor Road, K.R. Circle, D. Devaraj Urs Road and JLB Road, before terminating at Maharaja’s PU College on JLB Road.

The rally participants held placards that read various messages on awareness regarding crimes, safety and security of citizens, DOs and DON’Ts etc. Pamphlets about the Crime Prevention Month were distributed among the public en route the rally.

Speaking after flagging off the rally, DC Dr. K.V. Rajendra said that just as we take safety measures during construction of buildings, we should be alert about our own safety and  security all the while.

Asking the public to inform the Police if they come across any unlawful activities or suspicious movements or acts by unknown people and as well as such other acts which cause harm to the society, he said that co-operation of the public is vital for the success of people-friendly policing.

Later a stage programme was held at the same venue (in front of Palace North Gate), when students enacted a street play on the importance of being aware and alert for prevention of crimes, which was widely appreciated by the gathering. Impressed by the performance of school students, City Police Commissioner B. Ramesh, who inaugurated the stage programme, announced a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 to the students who took part in the play.

Colourful baloons were released as part of the event. DCPs M. Muthuraj (Law & Order) & S. Jahnavi (Crime & Traffic), CAR DCP Maruti, Mounted Police Commandant Shylendra, Intl. Athlete Reena George and ZP CEO K.M. Gayathri were present.
