City to celebrate ‘Rashtriya Yogothsava’ tomorrow

June 5, 2023

As a prelude to the 9th International Yoga Day (June 21), the Ministry of Ayush and Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, in association with  Mahajana Education Society and Sri Vedavyasa Yoga Pratishthana, have decided to organise ‘Rashtriya Yogothsava’ on June 6 at the APJ Abdul Kalam Stadium in Mahajana First Grade College, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru.

International Yoga Day is celebrated every year on June 21. The date 21st June was chosen, as it is the summer solstice, the day when the sun is at the farthest position from the earth and is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The proposed day was supported by 177 nations, the highest number ever for any UN resolution.

Mysuru, the hub of Yoga practice and education, is one of the most popular cities in Karnataka and South India. Mysuru is gearing up for a huge celebration on the 21st of June this year too after the astounding success last year.

Mayor Shivakumar will inaugurate the event tomorrow at 7 am. Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha will preside. T. Muralidhar Bhagvat, President, Mahajana Education Society, will address the gathering.

The importance and benefits of Yoga practice would be highlighted by Dr. K. Raghavendra Pai, Secretary of Vedavyasa Yoga Pratishthana.

D. Sudhanva, CEO & Founder, Excelsoft Technologies, will unveil the yoga exhibition.

This year’s International Day of Yoga (IDY) endeavours to connect with a larger global community, as India’s G20 presidency theme “One World, One Health’ resonates with the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”

Along with global outreach, IDY will focus on taking Yoga to each and every village in India through active participation of Gram Panchayat and Gram Sabhas.
