City’s Padmapriya wins singles title

ATF 14&U Grade A Tournament

Mysuru: Mysuru’s Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar was crowned champion in the Girls’ Singles at the ATF 14&U Grade A Tournament (South East Asia), which concluded at Epsom College, Malaysia yesterday.

In the finals, Padmapriya showed tremendous fighting spirit to overcome fellow Indian Khushi Kadian 7-6(7), 2-6, 6-1.

In the semi-finals, she beat Chinese player Mengxiao Li convincingly in straight sets 6-0, 6-3. Meanwhile, in the doubles, Padmapriya Ramesh Kumar paired with Thailand player Ploypet Daungkhiaw and lost in semifinals to Kushi Kadian and Parinitha Vattaparambil pair 2-6, 6-0, 7-10.

Daughter of Dr. P. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Project Tiger), Mysuru and Dr. Malathi Priya, Chief Conservator of Forests (Chamarajanagar Circle), Padmapriya trains under Coach Raghuveer Ponnuswamy, Pawan and Sagar (fitness coach) in Mysuru. She is a Class 9 student at Excel Public School in city.
