Vibha P. Ravindra (10 years) and Vihaan P. Ravindra (8 years) of Karnataka Kickboxing Sports Association have brought laurels to the State and the country by winning three and two silver medals, respectively in the 2nd World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) Indian Open International Kickboxing Tournament recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, International Olympic Committee (IOC) held from Nov. 2 to 6 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
Vibha secured silver medals in Light Contact, Kick Light and Creative Form in the -37 kg young Cadet’s category, while Vihaan secured silver medals in Point Fight and Creative Form in the -33 kg Children’s category. Both received 1st-degree black belt from the WAKO (India) President Santosh K. Agrawal in the Tournament. The kickboxers from Uzbekistan, Korea, Jordan, Kirgizstan countries and other States in India participated in the Championship.
Both have been trained for the past five years in Karate, Boxing and Kickboxing and have won several medals at district, State and national levels. Both of them achieved the distinction as youngest kids from the State to win medals in National Kickboxing Championship.
It may be noted that both won five medals together in National Kickboxing Championship held in Kolkatta in July this year, won medals in the State-level Boxing Championship held at Bengaluru in October this year and medals in International Karate Championship held at Shivamogga this year.
They are the children of Dr. P.V. Ravindra, Principal Investigator, CSIR-CFTRI and G.C. Shwetha, teacher, Excel Public School (EPS), Mysuru, and are studying in Class 5 and Class 2, respectively, at EPS, Mysuru.
Both of them are being trained under the guidance of Sensei G. Sudhakar, Sensei Yogesh (Sanskar Karate Club, V.V. Mohalla) and Sensei Harsha (ASD Fight Club, Kuvempunagar).
