Civic issues galore in Vijayanagar 1st Stage

August 25, 2020

Sir,

I wish to draw the attention of the civic authorities concerned towards the following issues:

General litter, strewn garbage, overgrown weeds, partying roadside and in public spaces like parks and inadequate lighting in these areas, mushrooming of eateries and snack joints and their ill-effects are unabated in the city. Even main roads and prominent areas are not spared, leave alone the interior and peripheral parts of the city.

I wish to highlight one such spot on New Kalidasa Road, 4th Cross, 10th Main, Vijayanagar 1st Stage, narrow road next to the MUDA Park. Customers to the few eateries and coffee shops, ice-cream parlours park their vehicles haphazardly further narrowing the road, people spread out in the area and road. Then they litter the area with the waste, beer bottles etc. Arguments and fights are routine.

They also relieve themselves roadside. The Police come, stay for a few minutes and disappear without any definitive action.

Most of the young crowd do not even wear masks, no distancing inside the roadside eateries. The noise disturbance to the otherwise peaceful residential locality with many seniors, elders and students is enormous.

Afternoons and late evenings attract fringe elements to the park, alcohol bottles and other filth are littered within and outside the park. Most lights in the park are either damaged or not switched on.

Very recently the CESC (I presume) staff cut branches of many trees inside and outside the park and left them on the fence, compound walls, walkways in the park and roadside. Who is supposed to clear them, the park goers, drivers, house owners?

We, the citizens who pay regular taxes, follow rules and expect nothing more than a decent, quiet, healthy environment particularly in this time of pandemic request the concerned authorities to look into all the above issues and take corrective action as early as possible.

– Dr. M.N. Ravi, for citizens of the area Vijayanagar 1st Stage, 22.8.2020
