Cleaning, hostel cooking staff and safai workers of Mysore University launch indefinite strike

Mysore/Mysuru: “Demanding fulfilment of their various demands including minimum salary, ESI and PF benefits, the cleaning, hostel cooking staff and safai workers attached to the University of Mysore launched an indefinite protest today.

Accusing University of Mysore of ignoring the demands of its cleaning staff and safai workers who were working for years under its jurisdiction,  the disenchanted workers, who are members of State Combined  University Cleaning Staff Association which is affiliated to AIUTUC  launched an indefinite protest, in front of  Kuvempu statue at  the entrance of the University .

“The salary of the cleaning, hostel cooking staff and safai workers should be credited to their Bank accounts. These workers should be given PF and ESI facilities apart from giving them necessary protective gears. In addition, they should also be paid arrears of minimum salaries and details of deducted amount paid to the PF account of workers should be shared. The workers’ minimum wages should be revised regularly and Dearness Allowance (DA) should also be paid to cleaning staff and safai workers,” demanded AIUTUC Secretary Chandrashekar Meti,  who also asked the authorities to stop harassing cooking staff.

AIUTUC office-bearers including District General Secretary Usharani, Yashodhar, Suma, Mary, Satish and others took part  in the protest.
