Sir,
The Government Public Libraries, numbering more than 10 in Mysuru, are closed for nearly 40 days starting from Apr. 15, 2025 stating Books verification, Audit etc. The newspaper section is also closed from 10 am to 5.30 pm on all the days.
With this kind of closures, the Library will be closed for public for more than 140 days in a year. No Government Office will be closed for public on account of any Audit / Stock verification etc.
As newspaper sections are utilised by students / user public and newspapers are to be read on day to day basis, how can the newspaper sections remain closed for more than 2 to 3 days continuously and more than 8 days in a month and more than 140 days in a year?
In Bengaluru, the newspaper sections of Central Public Libraries work on all the 365 days without any holidays.
The Deputy Director of Libraries in Mysuru had stated about two years ago that the facility of newspapers will be made available to public on all 365 days, as demanded by the public / tax payers. Although, two years have lapsed, no such action is initiated till today.
I request the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner to take a call on the above issues and initiate necessary action, immediately in the interest of user public.
