Bengaluru, Oct. 31 – Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will present Rajyotsava Award to 70 achievers during the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations to be held at Ravindra Kala Kshethra in Bengaluru tomorrow evening.
Among the 70 personalities, whose names were announced yesterday, six achievers are from Mysuru — Journalist Amshi Prasanna Kumar, Athlete M. Yogendra, Educationist Dr. N.S. Ramegowda, Natyacharya Prof. K. Ramamurthy Rao, Folk artiste L. Mahadevappa and Handicrafts artisan L. Hema Shekar.
This year, the State Government has selected 70 achievers to commemorate the 70th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations. Other prominent personalities, who will receive the Rajyotsava Award include actors Prakash Raj (Dakshina Kannada) and Vijayalakshmi Singh (Kodagu), theatre director Mime Ramesh (Dakshina Kannada) and writer Rahamat Tarikere (Chikkamagalur).
Announcing the list of awardees here yesterday, Kannada and Culture Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi told media persons that as per the earlier decision no organisations were selected for the Rajyotsava Award and this year a total of 12 women achievers will receive the award which comprises a 25-gram gold medal, a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh and a memento.
A Committee headed by the Chief Minister selected persons for the award, Minister Tangadagi told media.
Doctor from Kodagu
Dr. Nellamakkada M. Babina (Puttichanda), a native of Ammathi in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu, currently serving as Chief Medical Officer at the Jindal Naturecure Institute in Bengaluru, has also been selected for this year’s Rajyotsava Award.
